Pier & Amar
The merging of two cultures made this wedding truly unique.
How they met: The bride says, “Amar and I met in medical school in Ottawa. We got to know each other when we were matched on a paediatric rotation together. I shared my snacks with him and he made sure I laughed… things haven’t changed much!”
Sneak peek: Pier says her favourite part was seeing Amar arrive on a horse! “He was led by a drummer and all of his friends and family. I was tucked away in a small cottage so that he wouldn’t see me, but I was able to peek out the window and see him come in.”
Two cultures: Pier explains, “Our goal in this wedding was really to bring together two cultures. We did not want two different ceremonies or receptions, but wanted both to merge together into one. I wore a white dress, but had mehndi done for my hands and feet, had Indian jewelry and bangles and an indian dupatta (shawl). I made a ribbon out of my mother’s wedding dress, which was wrapped around my flowers. We had a friend of the family lead the civil ceremony, which was both in French and English, and Amar’s uncle lead the Indian ceremony, which flowed into each other nicely.”
Honeymoon: The couple took an epic foodie vacation in Italy and Japan.
Advice to couples: “Focus on the parts that are the most important to you as a couple – what you want the day to say about you and represent about your relationship and union. There are so many small details that don’t matter much at the end of the day.”
